Steel End Forming & Bending Materials

Carbon Steels are predominantly a mixture of iron and carbon. The ratio of these two elements affects the hardness, strength, ductility, and ease of bend. The higher the carbon content, the more difficult the product will be to bend.

They are further classified below:

  • Low Carbon Steel – ≤ .3% Carbon
  • Medium Carbon Steel – .3 -.6% Carbon
  • High Carbon Steel – ≥ .6%

Characteristics

The higher the carbon content, the stronger the material. Consequently, steels with large amounts of carbon are more challenging to cut, bend, and weld. Additional characteristics include:

  • Strong
  • Durable
  • Economical
  • Ductile
  • Resists Wear
  • Environmentally Friendly

With increasing interest in sustainability, carbon steel is an ideal material for making bent tubing equipment parts or construction components. It’s one of the most recycled materials on the planet.

Less Carbon, Better Bending

The lesser amount of carbon makes low-carbon steel more ductile. As a result, it can be bent to the tightest possible radii with minimal distortion and maximum consistency. It’s suitable for use in a wide range of indoor and outdoor bent tubing applications.
